MEN’S A

10 June saw another fine win for Suffolk Men's A Team, beating Essex 28:16.  Suffolk were off to a good start taking the first four frames.  Essex started to make a comeback, but Suffolk held their lead and took the first session 7:4.

In the second session, Essex started to pull back and by frame 16, had drawn level at 8:8.  Suffolk were not going to lie down and took the next 3 frames, lost one and then proceeded with a massive 11 consecutive wins!  Now leading 22:9, Suffolk were at least guaranteed a draw with 13 frames still to play.  With the 5 point bonus for an overall win, the final score of 28:16 gives Suffolk A 33 points to add to the league tables.

Excellent results for Ned Acton, winning 4 out of 4 and Steve Lish, Alan Mower (currently top of Region 4 rankings), Paul Keeble, Mark Keeble and Phil Dyer, each winning 3 out of 4.

MEN’S B

Good news also for the Men's B Team, beating Essex 25:19.

After last month's result which saw them drop from 1st position to 4th in the Regional Tables, Suffolk B wanted a good win.

It was not a good start.  Suffolk trailed 5:2 after 7 frames but managed to take the next 4 to go 6:5 up.  The second session was similar leading to a 12:10 lead.  A couple of Suffolk players had not won a frame, it was time to make some changes.

Andy Whitehorn and Andy Palmer were brought off the subs bench and each contributed one frame towards the final score 25:19 giving Suffolk B 30 points to add to the tables.

Great efforts from Phil Cullingford, winning 4 out of 4 and Gary Flatt, Darren Belton, Rob Bullard, Lee Cubitt and Sean Whelan each winning 3 out of 4.

LADIES

Ladies had a very good chance of winning today; the Essex Ladies were two players short of a team. This mean that throughout the day the Suffolk Team would be given 8 frames. As the first session got under way it was very tight with the session ending 6-5 to Suffolk. The next session was a little more exciting for the Suffolk team as they increased their lead, only losing 2 out of 9 frames. This put the score to 15-7. Suffolk were not going to stop there and took both the third and fourth sessions 8-3, giving the Suffolk team a huge 31-13 win putting them 14 points clear at the top of the Region 4 league tables.

Excellent performances by Zanya Archer, Deb Pullen and Clare Seaman, all winning 4 out of 4 and Kim O'Brien, Vikki Layton and Donna Green for winning 3 out of 4.

JUNIORS

The Suffolk Youth team had a very difficult match ahead of them. They were up against last year's Region 4 champions. The first session started badly for Suffolk when Essex took an 8-3 lead. Suffolk did reduce the lead in the second session to 8-9, but Essex used their reserves and took the second session 14-8. By the end of the third session Suffolk could only get a draw as Essex had now stretched their lead to 22-11. Suffolk, although trying very hard, were unable to subdue a very good Essex side who ended winning the match 30-14.

Good performances by Craig Canham and Dylan Thomas both winning 3 out of 4.

Next match will be away to Hertfordshire - 8 July 2001.
