MEN’S A

Currently top of the regional tables, the mens A team were looking to continue their run of wins.  They got off to a good start against Hertfordshire taking the first session 8:3.  The second and third sessions were nearly as good as Suffolk progressed the score to lead by 22 frames to 11.  The fourth and final session saw Suffolk really piling on the pressure only allowing Herts a further two frames to finalise the score as Suffolk 31, Herts 13.

This means that Suffolk A now have 159 points, 40 points ahead of second place Cambridgeshire.  Bedfordshire and Norfolk are both on 104 points with their match yet to be played.  However, with a maximum available of 49 points, they will still be behind Suffolk regardless of the result.

Excellent results from A Mower, P Keeble, P Cullingford and N Acton each winning all four frames, also from P Dyer who won three out of four.

MEN’S B

Suffolk B started the match at the bottom of the regional tables alongside Herts.  A good result was desperately needed here if Suffolk were serious about challenging for the top positions.

The first four games alternated between Suffolk and Herts.  With the scores level two all, Suffolk started a winning streak and took the next seven frames to lead the match 9:2!  Suffolk maintained the pressure for the next three sessions only allowing Herts to take three frames in each to bring the final score line to a massive win for Suffolk 33:11.

This gives a big boost to Suffolk B who are now on 121 points.  Although they haven't shot up the tables and are still in fifth position on 121 points, the Regional leaders, Bedfordshire, are only 14 points ahead on 135 points.  With only half a season gone, could this mean Suffolk B are now in with a real chance?

Excellent results from J Adams, S Clemments and S Todd each winning all four frames, also L Cubitt, P Cohen, J Jinkerson, G Tiplady, T Keil and R Smith each won three out of four.

LADIES

Suffolk Ladies needed a good win today to claim top place in the league.  They started very well taking the first session 10-1.  They were not going to drop the pace and in the next two sessions they only dropped three frames.  Leaving the score after three sessions 29-4 to Suffolk. In the final session Suffolk kept up the good form and once again only dropped two frames.  The final score was exactly what Suffolk needed with a massive win of 38 frames to Hertfordshire’s 6.

Excellent performances saw Z Archer, F Calvert, T Acton, C Seaman, D Pullen and K O’Brien all win four out of four frames.  Also good performances saw V Adams and R Osborne both win two out of two frames.

This result should see Suffolk Ladies back at the top of the league.

YOUTHS

Suffolk Youth’s had had an excellent season so far and did not want that to change today.  Suffolk got off to a very good start taking the first session 7-4.  But in the second session Suffolk seemed to lose their momentum and Herts managed to take 8 frames from the young Suffolk side.  In the third session Suffolk did increase the pace and took 6 of the 11 frames on offer.  This meant that Suffolk were still trailing but now only by one frame.  Suffolk stuggled in the final session and dropped seven frames which meant that Herts won the match with a 24-20 win over the previously undefeated Suffolk side.

Excellent performances saw P Singh and S Jeffery both win four out of four frames.  Also a good performance from R Reed for winning three out four of his frames.

Even after today’s result Suffolk youths remain at the top of the league.

NEXT MATCH - away to Norfolk, 11 August.
